Sorry, wasn't sure where to post this. We have seperate products like: trial 3 day membership then defaults to 1 month 1 month membership 3 month membership 6 month membership 1 year membership All are setup on paypal standard I believe and recurring. We have no other payment type options. All have the same renewal group of 'membership' so that if someone upgrades from a one month to a 3 month they still get all their paid time. My question is.... If someone is on a one month membership which expires on December 5th. Then right now they decide to upgrade to the 6 month membership because we have a coupon code out. Do they need to hit cancel now on the one month to stop that from charging them the one month fee again on December 5th? Or does the system automatically realize that they upgraded their plan and ignore the old one? If they do need to cancel out the 1 month then will that cancel out the recurring fee's they just setup in paypal for the 6 month? Does that make sense? I don't want their new 6 month recurring fee in paypal to cancel out and I don't want them charged for both types of memberships either. Thanks!
With paypal regular, or almost any 3rd party payment system- changing payment plans is not simple. They almost always or you need to cancel the old subscription before or after they order the new one. Eg- sign up for a monthly membership. Then decide they want a 6 month recurring. It gets tricky, as when they sign up for th 6 month, they are still active in the 1 mos- so they need to cancel the 1 month. But now they have 2 payments made... so you'd need to refund all or part of month 1. No easy solution for this.... David
Thanks David, that confirms what I was afraid of...LOL. Hope they find a better solution for this soon. I don't think I need to refund all or part of month 1 though because we have all the different length of terms under the same renewal group so that it just adds to their existing time. We have a 'no refund' policy so it takes an act of god to get me to hit that refund button...LOL. Anyone unhappy so far I've just given a coupon to a free extra month or two and they have been stoked.
