We have 3 products setup which are essentially the same - they protect the same content. The only difference is the time span: 1 month 3 months 6 months 12 months I have searched and can't determine how to set it up so these can "add up." For instance, if they have a 3 month plan with 1 month left and they purchase a 6 month plan, they have a total of 7 months left. Any advice is appreciated.

Your Existing Use Case: you need to use product Renewal Group to achieve what you need: aMember CP -> Products -> Manage Products -> (edit) So all your products should have same renewal group to extend each other.
