I bought amember for a membership site I have. It's been running fine for about 3 or so months now. Over the last few days, over 500 emails have come in saying that the license has expired - it was coming from my own email address. Now today the website is down. The forum is down. Everything connected to amember on the website is down. It just says, "License Expired" in red. I cannot log into my admin area. I need to get this back up ASAP for my members. Any idea as to why this is happening??? Thank you.
OK... So I found in my member area here in Amember that the license expires in 3 months for 'security' reasons and I've been given a lifetime license to put somewhere... But where? I've searched through the manual, FAQ, site, forum, etc. and nowhere does it explain what file the license is located so I can change it... How is that even possible when everyone has to chance their license after 3 months? There really needs to be clear instructions for people here... Anyone know what folder/file the license is located so I can change it so I can be back up and running? Thanks.
Login to https://www.amember.com/amember/member.php Under the license heading: click on your website domain name- you should see a new license. Go to your admin screen on your website, setup/config, license. Enter the new license. OK - I have been able to solve this issue. I took a chance and installed the files one would need to install when upgrading from a free trial and figured out what to do based on the somewhat understandable instructions, although that were written for free trial members. I VERY HIGHLY suggest that Amember hires someone to rewrite ALL of the instructions, help sections, how-to's, etc. Since day one, each tiny step has been painful. After a week of trying to get amember to work with WordPress and my forum software, I gave up and hired an expert programmer. It took her 3 days to figure things out - many things we had to do to get it up and running were not covered in any of the instructions. Don't get me wrong, amember works, but you really have to have quite a technical background to understand what to do to make all things work if you are looking to use amember for more than a basic website. Connecting it to WordPress and forums and having free/ paid areas is something that I would never wish upon anyone. Anyway - everything works now and I hope that I never have to touch anything again now that the lifetime license is up and running. Whew! Good luck out there - and guys.. seriously consider creating new documentation for this software. You'll save so much money and time on support questions alone.
> Go to your admin screen on your website, setup/config, license. Enter the new license. But if the expired license has locked you out, you can't do this.
How do I install a new license when existing one has expired? I also have this problem. Does anyone know how I should go about installing the new license when access to the control panel is not available? I'm guessing that this is something that occurs pretty often. Cheers Jim
Login to your aMember member area at http://www.amember.com , click on the domain name license in there and there you will see this: "If you are upgrading from trial version, or, if your installation is not working because license is expired, you have to use this license-fix tool." The URL to the fix tool is https://www.amember.com/downloads/fixlicense.zip , but I am not sure if it will work when you are not logged in. Tomas
That's fantastic Tomas! Many thanks That fixed it for me. I should have gone straight to the FAQ before looking on the forum though. I will next time! Jim
I can't find my new license... Any hints on where to find it? Yes, I did look in those places indicated above...
When you login to your aMember member area at amember.com, you will see your member pages and there should be your domain name mentioned on the left hand side. Just click on it and you will see your license keys (there should 2 - one live and one for localhost). If the keys are not there, you will probably have to contact Alex. I suppose you are not using the trial version? Tomas
