Search with Custom Fields

Discussion in 'Troubleshooting' started by thomas_tingey, Oct 9, 2013.

  1. Is there a way to have the search in the admin search through user custom fields?

For example we have a field for "business name" and it would be really helpful if we could include that for the search.

Advanced search doesn't include User Fields. The dropdown only lists User Base Fields, Subscription Status and a few other things.

I assume getting User Fields listed in there will involve a hack solution, but surely many people would like to be able to search through their custom fields??

In case you want to search by some custom fields you can change type of it to SQL (aMember CP -> Configuration -> Add User Fields). Then this field will be available for search in Advanced Search. Search by DATA fields is not possible.

If I select as the "Field Type" = "SQL" and "Display Type" = "Select (Multiple Values)" the custom field search doesn't seem to work. Is this a bug of is there a technical limitation?

We need a list of industry sectors applicable for members and would like web site visitors be able to search / list members based on industry sector.

I was hoping to do this out of the box with the Directory Plugin rather than building a custom search.
