I'm pretty new to online memberships and stuff on a website. basically I want to know how to set up a secure server. I know absolutly nothing about secure server stuff, if I upload amember to my server does it automatically make that part of the server secure? Or does anyone know any websites that might have some information about this?
Depends on the payment processor you are using. If you use something like paysystems.com, your customers will be redirected to their secured servers to make payment. If you utilize a fully integrated payment processor like Authorize.net (the customer never leaves your site; aMember directly interacts with the payment gateway), you'll want to purchase an SSL certificate for your domain (people get that warm fuzzy feeling when there's a little padlock on the bottom of their browser). This certificate essentially secures any connection for <your-domain.com> You'll probably have to pay your webhost to install this certificate for you. WebHostingTalk is a great place to ask about these types of issues. Post a question asking what an SSL certificate is, and pricing, or you can just search there huge archive of previous posts.
I think you are asking about protecting of members area on your site, right? If yes, then entire process of installation and protection is desinbed in the manual: http://www.cgi-central.net/opened/html/ and for Pro http://cgi-central.net/amemberdocs/
