    Hi -

I'm trying to get amember set up, everything's working fine so far except the email system configuration.

Q: Is there any way for me to set up SMTP host via my default gmail account to work with this, or no?

Q: I've tried both the default Internal PHP mail function, as well as choosing Sendmail path:
    /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

but neither works, I've tried repeatedly, sending test emails to several email accounts (hotmail/gmail/yahoo - nothing).

I've set the admin email to the site email eg myname@mydomain.com so it matches.

Any ideas on how to set up SMTP if I can't get these internal php/sendmail functions to work?

I'm running a dedicated unix server on cihost, they may well have disabled php sendmail to avoid spam/for security issues... so how do I set up SMTP if necessary?

    thx,

    k

disabled sendmail on a dedicated server to avoid spam/for security?

    geez... scary.

and that name did sound familiar from somewhere - I remember CIHost from back in the day, and apparently not much has changed - they still suck big time, limiting their users to God knows what while offering GoDaddy-like pricing on hosting.

Just FYI - everyone I know who jumped on the CIHost bandwaggon a while back jumped off within a month or two... you figure out why.

I've been a cihost customer for 9 continuous years with them and have made millions with my sites hosted with them, they're a great host.

What I need to get help with is the smtp and/or other configuration data for use w/amember...there's a lot of forum posts with headers "email signups not coming through", so it's probably not just my host, but rather some configuration fix I can use... hopefully I'll get an answer from amember soon. They may have sendmail available, it looks like it is in fact enabled using phpinfo.

    Ken,

I tend to agree with miso on this, and the reviews are fairly consistent regarding CIHost

    http://www.webhostingjury.com/reviews/CI_Host

That being said, the issue you have with using GMail is that they require 2 things that aMember out of the box does not:

    1) The ability to specify the port that you will communicate over
    2) The ability to communicate to the SMTP using TLS/SSL

Have you confirmed with your Host that internal PHP Mail and / or Sendmail is enabled for your server? I would start there and let them know what you are trying to accomplish. For a site making millions of dollars you deserve a host that handles all of your technical needs.

For someone who made all that money, you should know better, my friend... as CIHost is worse than GoDaddy when it comes to hosting in my books, and GoDaddy is pretty low on the scale.

Any updates on your issue? Fix of some sort?
