Subscription by donation

I am working on a site for an organization that will be accepting paid subscriptions. The cost of the subscription is individualized. I know that amember pro will enable me to set up the membership login area. We are using paypal for the 'donation'. I am wondering if it is possible to set up amember for donations that don't include a regularly priced 'product'? I have looked through the manual and the forums but am not seeing that exact issue.

Even if we don't actually integrate the donation with amember, we would like to be able to have users login to their account on the site and see their 'history'. With regularly priced products, I know this is entirely possible but can this be done with donations? thank you!

ok. thank you. We are going to be using PayPal. And how extensive is the customization? I mean, is there some type of module or plugin? or does the code have to be reworked? or is it just a matter of the choices that I make during set up? I am not a php programmer, however, I am familiar to some extent with customizing scripts. So I'm just wondering if it is something I would be able to do. Of course, you have no way of knowing
