For reasons I wont get into, I need to have 2 WP installs on one domain. Can I replicate the amember plugin for the second WP install? I'm assuming, in theory, it should work. In addition to changing the folder name, I may need to change a few other things as well, including the way it is read by amember itself into the cpanel. Haven't looked yet but i figured i'd ask if others have done it rather than go fishing without a clue.

Yes this is possible and a few other admins have done it without issue. That being said, do be sure to test in a non production environment and backup before running the Rebuild Db.

To be safe, I'd suggest talking with Ken Gary to see if his expertise can help minimize the effort and risk:

Kens amprotect will work on a 2nd install too.
No rebuild, or hacking of the amember plugin needed. When the user logs in, they get copied to the new version.

Thanks skippy (I think I saw you on WHT, lol) and David. Doesn't look like Ken is selling his plugin at this time and it is also encoded, which is a real problem for me when worrying if things go wrong with registration and every day membership/account functions.

I guess I am going to try to create multiple wordpress plugins, which in theory should work just by replicating them, e.g. wordpressplugin_site1, wordpressplugin_site2 and each one will have its own database information to effectuate sync. The only unfortunate aspect of this is that the initial sync might take a very long time even if I copy my user tables. I have about 110,000 members and sync 5 different databases.

I think Kens gonna reopen sales of the plugins soonish (unknown when...) with very limited support.
He has unencoded versions too. Kens plugin copies over the member info when they login to wordpress so you wont have the overhead of doing a rebuild.

I used to do the cloning the plugin method and did a video on it a while back, but found kens plugin to be superior.

Note: 110,000 users, you better be on a dedicated server!
If you do do the rebuild- check/uncheck each plugin when you rebuilds so it doesnt try to do them all at once.

David - yes, I actually have 2 dedicated servers. I can prune the users (many come and then leave) but there is always value in user databases so I've been reluctant to do so unless clearly spammers. My concurrent users are manageable, the key is in being able to have all these databases with the same login info.

Good tip on syncing one database at a time. Right now I'll be close to synching about a dozen databases on one aMember install. As long as there isn't too much rebuilding, it should work fine in theory since users will rarely need to perform that function and I've locked them out from making changes in WP.

The only pain is in having multiple bios. it would be nice if all that database could be synchronized as well, e.g. one bio for all installs. Thanks - we'll see what Ken does but for now it looks like it's not an option.

I dont know if Ken will be opening up sales again... But I have a developers license to the plugins, so can install them on clients sites when doing consulting for them.
