    Hi,

I need help regarding the structure/infrastructure of my new site.

I am planning on installing on the root of the site a word press, and my site will be powered by it.
    I mostly have static page.

But I wanted to have a member site. I was thinking of putting that on a folder under the wordpress installation. This site will have its own domain name.

Now I know that wordpress does not use subdirectories, but page/post.

So waht will be the best way? Two Wordpress install (but with one "template"), one for each (one for one domain and one for the other one) ; or one wordpress with a subfolder.

The protected folder will be working like a CMS for files, media ...

Any input/idea on the bext and simplest way to implement/structure that, and what will work best with amember ?

    S.

PS: ideally, i would love to have amember, if two wordpress are install, to share the database among those two instals.

I think two installs of wordpress sharing the same databases will be a problem.
Since in the confugration you are defining the root url of wordpress, the secondary wordpress will not properly redirect etc..
And how will the system know which content belongs to which install?

Will only one of the version of wordpress have levels or allow commenting by members?
If so- then just do a 2nd install with a 2nd database.

If both require members data, then you may need to use a 2nd type of CMS or create/modify a 2nd version of the amember wordpress plugin for the seperate databases.

Thanks a lot for this reply (sorry i did not get the confirmation email!)

In fact one wp will be used for amember. it will be its own member site.

The second wp install, is more for the generic page of the site, with maybe a blog integrated (but not necessarily commenting, on one or the others).

So the best way will be to have 2 word press install on the root of the host ?
One for the members, the other for the static site ? (those 2 word press will have two different domain names, but they will be kind of linked to each others)

If that is the easiest, will it be possible to share the same css for both ? (so i will avoid changing one site, and then the other ?)

    Sebastien

PS: I am juts looking for the easiest way to implement my static site and the member site (to be updated, see clearly inside ..)

I will also have some pdfs, videos and mp3. Will that be easy to use word press to update that (if I have my own folder structure and link the different page to those media ?)

    Suggest:

yoursite.com/ (1st wordpress install, public blog?)
    yoursite.com/member (amember install)
yoursite.com/members (2nd wordpress install, uses 1st wordpress CSS, protected/integrated with amember)

    Thanks David!

    Seems clear :)

Just one more question: can i do sub-folders and things like that under the 2nd wordpress to organize my media ? (not the pages/post, but to host the media)
Wordpress will be ok with that ?

Thats gonna depend on the plugin that calls the media. Some require a specific directory within wordpress, others allow you to define where the content is located.
If you are just linking to it, its not a problem.

    thanks.

Most of it is simply linking. I also find an addon (php script to load on wordpress) that uses the del.icio.us playtagger automatically (I am still thought looking into modifying it)
few will be embed videos, in flash or wmv (the new silverlight ?)
I will run some test. And keep you posted.

Just another quick question: on the main wordpress yoursite.com/ (1st wordpress install, public blog?) can i have the amember plugin to have people login on the actual member site yoursite.com/members (2nd wordpress install, uses 1st wordpress CSS, protected/integrated with amember) ?
