I decided to try out amember with vBulletin. The allure of a single(shared) login system is very appealing. However, the reality of what is offered here is less than stellar imo. First off, I think the membership intergration with vBulletin is downright ackward at best. I don't mean to sound harsh here but I believe credit is due when and where it is due, however this intergration(claim) on a 40.00 price tag is somewhat of a stretch. Am I wrong in assuming that either it works or it doesn't in this case? I installed amember and configured the plugin. After a few re-installation due to configuration traps(try wrong username or pass under vBull plug config) I managed to get the two script talking. To my great disappointment, amember does not support usergroups. Well it sort of does, just don't try manipulating anything on either end or you'll meet db errors and usersgroups will become deconfigured. My trial ended when I tried to adjust my users, usergoups only to find vbulletin crashing upon execution. Though I did have a backup on hand, I have to say the whole experience was not a very positive one. On a plus side, at least I was able to try this out before committing any money so A+ for that. I wonder if perhaps the product.xml wouldn't be better off under the hands of some coders at vbulletin.org instead.
