Since I have amember integrated with vbulletin, there is a lot more spam coming through. This removes the image verification and 'question' features since people have to go through amember instead of vbulletin.

Is there any way to protect the forum from spammers with this kind of setup?

You can enable image verification and email verification in amember itself, I'm pretty sure this will stop spam.

I didn't even know there was image verification. Turned it on and works great :)

The only thing I don't like about email confirmation is that when a user is signing up for a paid account and they don't have a pre existing free account, they have to go check their email to confirm. And when they click that link, it brings them to the 2checkout page. I wish it were set up where it brings them directly to the 2checkout site, and an email solely for confirming that doesn't redirect them to 2checkout.

Actually, I think a way to get around this may be that you only have to confirm your email address if you're a free member. I'd be satisfied with that since a spammer won't be paying for anything anyway =). Is it possible to do that?

It's the latest. Upgraded a few days ago. I have no idea how to do this in terms of code though.

A few things to consider in addition:

    1) Use the Akismet SPAM plugin for vBulletin. It will check all posts for Spam before they get posted to the forum and hold them in moderation (or block) if they are determined SPAM (configurable what action is taken)

    2) Set up user groups and automated promotional rules within vBulletin so that, for example, once a user is 'x' days old and has posted 'x' valid posts, they can be auto promoted and no longer have their posts checked for SPAM.
