what goes in Referred Affiliate field?

    When manually adding a user as an affiliate, what goes in the field marked Referred Affiliate in the Affiliate Program section of the page? I can't find any documentation for this setting.

    This is if you are using a 2 tier- this would be the affiliate that referred this affiliate.
