Ok, so here's the deal. In my naivity I thought I could easily set up a membership site as an upsell for an ebook product I wanted to sell on CLickbank. I thought sure, I'll just buy amember, upload it and in amember there will be a built in CMS system where I can get my webguy to tweak a few things so I can easilly upload the ebooks and have an area where I can post youtube video tutorials. Bear in mind I haven't set up clickbank yet, I thought I'll get the membership site set up first so I can link the accounts. So I get my web guy to upload amember and I log in to the control panel.. I don't see any CMS.. Oh dear.. So I dig deeper into amember and I think I need to use a third party CMS to set the blooming thing up. Oh god.. Basically I don't know what I'm doing and my web guy has never done anything like this before so I need help! What should I get? I lieterally want the easiest one there is so I can get it uploaded and integrated and then I can control it through a CMS. It has to work with clickbank (I don't even know if this makes a difference) and I want to maybe have an opt in box in there. It would be nice to be able to have a header and footer aswell so it looks like it belongs to my site etc. Can anyone help me? I'm a complete novice as you can tell. Is there hope for me?
Go over to the Membership Academy, learn, grab WordPress and some Kencinnus stuff and all is solved. Larry
thanks for your reply but I'm on a really tight budget is there any free advice for what I want to achieve? I'm considering going for a different membership software as I'm beginning to realise amember isn't the easiest one out there. Although it seems to be one of the best, I'm looking for the easiest to set up and am not too worried about customising things. Can anyone tell me briefly what I need to do?
You have been given some good advise. I built my membership site, on my own, knowing virtually nothing at the start you have the advantage of a 'web guy' and realise it is not as easy as you thought! What is the purpose of your site? To make you money? Sorry to say this but I simply cannot understand the mentality of people that attempt to do things to make money yet want strangers to do it for FREE for them. In the real world you invest with the idea of good returns, same in the 'virtual world'. Rant over.
I agree with thehpmc. Mastercyde's approach to building an ecommerce site is unrealistic. Setting up a viable ecommerce site is one of the more difficult projects to take on. Based on the snippets I include below, it is obvious that mastercyde has not done his homework. This starts off with not even understanding what aMember is. I am not sure what approach he should take, but with his current skill set and his level of commitment to this type of project, most likely aMember is not the best approach.
You get what you pay for and what you invest in things. You invested ZERO of your own research time into your own business AND finding the right person to handle it/set it up for you, and then you want to invest very little money into that person as well. You're doomed, my friend... Either expand your budget to find the right person to handle your business, or spend some more time on your own doing due diligence/research and figuring out how to do it yourself.
Hey Mastercyde! The best CMS to work with aMember (in my humble opinion) is WordPress. It's free and there are tons of free tutorials on how to use it to post your content, including videos, so that should take care of that part for you. I'm assuming you've already purchased aMember? So that cost is already under your belt. For $47 you can purchase my amProtect plugin for WordPress which is easy to learn. It will read your aMember database and protect your content from non-members. See how far you can get on your own with this free advice and if you get stuck after your due diligence come back and post some more questions. You may find it's surprisingly easier than it looks at first blush. On the other hand, the comments here are certainly true. At some point you will probably find that you will want to invest in the excellent advice and tutelage you can get at Membership Academy and/or hire someone like me who has been there before to guide you and your web guy through at least the first phases of the daunting task of building an awesome and amazing membership site. You're in the right place. You've found the way. You just need to persevere and ... it seems by what I'm reading here ... pay your dues. ;-D Hope this helps!
