I have a simple question about protection using wordpress. I understand that protecting different directories with aMember when using wordpress is not that useful in that wordpress does not use subdirectories for different pages/posts so doing something like www.mysite.com/silver www.mysite.com/gold and using aMember to protect those directories would not do much for protecting a specific page or post in Wordpress. That is my understanding. But if you want to use aMember to protect all of wordpress and wordpress and the wordpress blog are installed at www.mysite.com and aMember is at www.mysite.com/amember how do you accomplish this. I am able to protect a subdirectory www.mysite.com/apprentice and when user try to access it they are taken to the aMember login. That works as a test but that is not where the blog is. When I try to protect www.mysite.com I get an error for too many redirections. Do I have to move the wordpress blog to a subdirectory www.mysite.com/blog and protect it via aMember? Does this NOT work because aMember is under a directory that is protected? I've seen some information on moving the Wordpress blog and configuring via Wordpress. Will that provide simple protection for the entire blog and then use roles/levels to further protect premium content etc. since protecting directories with wordpress does not seem that useful? Any help would be appreciated.
There is a WordPress plugin available for sale from Amember that will allow you to protect individual posts/pages within Wordpress.
I've purchased the WordPress plugin from aMember but I do not see how it will protect individual posts/pages within Wordpress. I understand how I can protect different subdirectories eg. mysite.com/silver mysite.com/gold and have them protected by product type but I do not understand the protection of individual posts/pages. I've searched for that exact thing but do not see it. Thanks for your assistance.
You need to use the additional plugins hidepost and role manager for wordpress. This will allow you to set protection for the specific content. You can see this in action on my demo site. David
I posted a new thread, but this maybe interesting for me! I am looking into having some sort of "cart" with amember, wher specific "pages" on WP are protected (and within those page are mp3 and other stuff). I am not using the WP database (no comments, regsitration ..) I understand I will need th eplugin from amember for WP , but does this mean: "You need to use the additional plugins hidepost and role manager for wordpress. "? And where to get them ? S.
To protect the content from being seen you'll need the hidepost plugin and integration with amember. But, if you dont care about the artucle being read, only the mp3 etc.. You can put your content into amember protected folders and leave the actual articles unprotected. David
Thanks David. I will not mind having the page read, but I hink that will be better if everything is protected. Where can I find this "hidepost" and "integration" with amember ? I am a bit of a newbie with Wp and its plugin. Do I need the amember plugin, plus yours, plus the hidepost to do what I want to achieve (ie protect some pages with their media folder, but have others freely accessible ?) Sebastien
Hello, You can find hidepost plugin here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/hidepost/ You can access role manager plugin from Resources section of following url (look near bottom of page) http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities Jimmy
Thanks Jimmy. I am using WP 2.5, and thi splugin seems to work up to 2.3. Should still give it a try ? Also, how to you integrate Hidepost with amember ? Do I need the amember plugin, and/or the other amember plugin made by the forums users ? S.
Hello, Sorry I only use Wordpress as sortof a CMS system. In other words my wordpress part of my site is readonly, no member logins, no comments, and no protection of posts/pages. I use forums to provide user interaction and I protect forum boards with premium content. I just googled for the plugins but I have no experience using them, but I'm sure davidm1 has so maybe he can answer your questions. Jimmy
