I've hinted in a few threads about a large project coming up this weekend that I am needing "add to cart functionality" as opposed to the checkbox/radio button model by default in Amember.

I have been hoping timing would be right for a Amember v4 release with this kind of functionality, but I may be out of luck at this point.

    I am seriously considering WP-Ecommerce.

You can see an example site running this at:

    http://www.orangutan-appeal.org.uk/shop/?category=6

    Things I like:
    • Good user interaction out of the box
    • Integrated into WordPress template and DB with additional CSS if desired
    • Supports Physical and Digital Product
    • Streamlined Check Out

Things I would need to customize:
    • Only supports emailing file link (unique 32 bit alphanumeric code), would prefer file attachment or protected files
    • Only supports one payment kind at a time. I would prefer PayPal, Credit Card and Check/Money Order
    • As a result of not supporting protected directories, I may be out of luck for streaming video or require a plugin/hack to get it going.
    • It is not Amember

Has anyone else taken a look at WP-ECommerce. Can you provide feedback?

Are project deadlines requiring you to consider an alternative for your digital / physical carts? Care you share your experience?

Hey Frank I realize this post is about a year old already but I was wondering if you've followed WP e-Commerce since? Any opinions on it?

I actually went the route of Magento and have been very happy with it.

I'll be releasing my aMember integration soon once I get it cleaned up a bit. It allows you to use Magento as your front end shopping cart and passes the customer info and completed payment info back to aMember for plugin processing, protection, etc.

Just keep in mind that the current approach is significantly limiting the functionality of aMember for many. Since payments are happening in Magento, things like Amember's built in affiliate functions and recurring payments don't really apply.

The usage for this would be:

    * protection of content
    * single signon / content expiration
    * triggering dropship or on demand ship plugins such as cd-fulfillment,etc

There may be ways to make all this work, just wasn't necessary for my project so I did not investigate it.

Well all I need is exactly what you're doing :) I just want aMember to continue to manage access to the content so your solution sounds great. Can you give me an idea how I should be configuring my products in Magento? Does your plug-in allow the user to say which Magento product matches the aMember product or something? I'm starting to configure products but then I thought maybe I should wait to see how you did this.

Do you have an ETA for it yet?

The current implementation has a drop down on the Magento product page in admin that allows you to select the aMember product.
