If I have the wordpress integration plugin installed, can I log in through the normal wordpress wp-login.php and have access to content protected by the amember php-include? Right now when I try to do this it does not work. If I log in through the Amember interface everything works fine in both wordpress and amember protected content. What is odd is I can see no difference in the cookies being set by both login procedures. Questions: 1. Is the behavior I am seeing the expected behavior? 2. What does an Amember login do that a wordpress login does not? How can I observe the difference?
If you have amember/wordpress integrated, and you want a single login for both- you need to go through the aMember login. This will log you into amember and also wordpress. If you log into wordpress with the wp-login.php page- you will not be logged into amember. So what you want to do is replace the wordpress login with the aMember login, and redirect people to your blog after logging in. David
Thanks. What I discovered is Amember sets it's own cookie in addition to the wordpress user cookie. Amember does not use the wordpress cookie for it's own functions. Your answer makes sense. Thanks.
schmitt, I am running amember/wordpress on a subscription site with several levels/roles and folder protection. The login issues can drive you nuts but what I have done is create separate accounts as follows: Amember Admin - create admin account - Ex. admin1 - create user account -Ex. user1 Wordpress Admin - create admin account - same user/pass as user1 above. This method solved my login nightmares. Hope this helps.
I wrote a sidebar plugin that I gave to alex a few weeks ago, it logs you into amember from the wordpress sidebar area then you get logged into wordpress. Alex's testing it to include with his plugin. bigwavetrading - can you contact me? I'd like to get more info on your levels system. David
Bigwave - do you use the wordpress plugin? I am confused - why would you create a Wordpress Admin account with the same password as an Amember user? I think you menat to say Wordpress Admin account with same user/pass as admin1.
schmitt I have the WP plugin and use Roles in Wordpress 2.3.1. When I created same admin in both WP & amember I had several issues with not seeing right levels and FFox and IE-7 caching cookies. The user1 account keeps wp-admin and amember as a user happy, it has proper subscription level, then separate account for amember admin. With 3 site admins we all had issues until this method was used. Your user1 login will allow you to view your site properly and the separate login for amember admin controls amember. We currently have 5 user "levels" in wp-admin as well as protected folders and all are managed automaticaly very well by amember.
When was the wordpress plugin been last updated? Hi, I'm wondering... when was the wordpress plugin been last updated? Also, is it mandatory when using aMember and Wordpress, to use Wordpress's "Roles"? Thanks! Scott
It depends, If you put the wordpress blog behind a "walled garden", in other words, only paying members can see the blog, then you dont necessarily need to define roles unless you want members to be able to be identified when they post comments etc.. If you dont need to register users on the blog, you dont really need the amember plugin either. If you are using the "magazine model", using teaser text with public and private content on the blog, then you would need to set the role to "subscriber" so that paying members can see your private content. wordpress / amember / plugin help David, Please contact me at your earliest convenience. I need help and am willing to pay. I have amember and wordperss installed. I can't find their recommended wordpress plugin: ViewLevel 2.0, as the download link seems to be broken. Phone: 262 844 5773 Scott
Ok, I figured it out for the most part, but wondering what the best way to do the login page replacement?
ViewLevel -- Link Broken? Hello, Where did you find the ViewLevel plugin? I too found the broken link, and can't seem to find the actual files... Matt TazaTek
Viewlevel 2.0 can be found here: http://wordpress.emea.nl/?p=151 If you are running WordPress 2.5 you will need this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/md5-password-hashes/
Skippybosco - The VL 2.0 link takes you to a page that takes you to the deadlink page! Well not dead but the file is no longer available... how are people using it? Could someone email me VL 2.0 Plug-in or are people using Post Levels or some other plug-in? The aMember doc's really need a update! Especially the WP stuff... http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-levels/#post-230 Cheers
I can't get the Post Level plug-in to work, aMember WP Level assigned Products aren't showing up in WB DB when checking the User Level info in WP CP. Could someone email me the ViewLevel Plug-in please? Many thanks discroom@gmail.com
Using Post Levels Plug-in I am getting closer. Some info is not getting to WP somehow! If I Add a User in aMember and then Login the restricted levels content is NOT visible but if I use the WP login it IS visible to the logged in user. Anyone got any ideas why the WP login works and aMember doesn't? and how to pass the Level set in the Product to the WP DB? Cheers
