I'm currently researching all possibilities of using AM for my WP project and have been using the AM demo. I know there's a WP integration plugin with widgets etc but it all seems quite convoluted for our purposes. What I am looking to achieve with AM is to sign up members, receive payment, and then automatically create them as a User in WordPress. This will involve mapping fields in AM to the relevant user fields in WP. WP comes with a collection of default user fields but we need to add a few more, including the ability to upload a photo, as the Gravatar function in WP is of no use to us. I see from playing around with the AM demo that there's no upload field we can add at sign up, so the only option is to let them do this on the WP side. But I also read in the documentation that is recommended that the user creates & updates their profile on the AM side, and not the WP side. Ideally, I would much prefer that our users, at the sign up stage in AM, created a profile including adding a photo, and then these would all be pushed automatically to the WP side. I've thought about splitting the interface into 2 portions, by grouping certain fields in the AM sign up stage (the first portion) under the heading of 'Account details', and then showing the second portion of WP custom user fields we need under a separate group called 'Profile Details'. This would mean that any updates the user made to their account details in AM would overwrite this first portion of fields in WP, and not affect the second portion as these would be contained via a separate tab or link. Are we on the right track with this methodology?
I think you will need some customization done to amember and the amember plugin for wordpress to get this done. You should contact amember tech support. David
Yes, we'll definately need some customisations and a plugin, for sure. I've already contacted tech support but no reply as of yet. I really want to use AM for our project because I believe in it and trust it to be able to work for us.
I've got this sort of setup with a site we are building. You DONT need to customise aMember to achieve this. We use Fromidable Pro to allow users to create their own content, including extended profile info. We use aMember just to handle the registration, payment and logging in side of things.
Hello team, I am having the same issue. I would like user creates & updates their profile on the AM side, and not the WP side. I have WP site with buddypress and bbpress. so the user has extensive profile page. I am wondering how to do this? please help? thank you
